Why join the Arroyo Seco chapter of CJSF

1. CJSF is the one organization that officially recognizes your academic achievements.

2. The Honor Society program promotes service to our community.

3. The medals you earn can be worn at graduation to show off your academic achievement.

4. Your name will appear in the yearbook on the Honor Society page.

5. We eat pizza.

How can you become a member?

1. You must earn a 3.5 grade point average for both quarters before applying for the Honor Society.

2. Citizenship marks will be reviewed for acceptance into the Honor Society program.

3. You must fill out an application during one of the three application periods and submit it with a suggested donation of $8 (checks should be made out to Arroyo Seco).

4. You must complete 5 hours of community service before turning in your application.

When Can You Join?

There are three opportunities to join the Honor Society. 7th grade can join at the start of the third quarter. 8th grade can join at the start of the year and again in the 3rd quarter. Students need to reapply for each of the three Honor Society terms.

What medals do you earn and when?

Earn all three medals by joining the Honor Society for all three terms.

7th Grade Spring Induction - Bronze Medal

8th Grade Fall Induction - Silver Medal

8th Grade Spring Induction - Gold Medal

Service Hours

Applicants must perform five community service hours each time they apply for the Honor Society. Hours can be completed on a date after the applications are due, but the student must get the signature of the person who will be supervising the community service hours stating that they will be completed at a later date.

Are you looking for a way to earn some service hours? The Friends of Castaic Lake have a monthly "Pride in the Lake" day where you can earn hours by helping keep the lake looking great. You can find our more about this event by checking out the "Pride in the Lake" link at www.castaiclake.net .

Important Dates for the 2012 / 2013 Honor Society

Fall Semester

August 29 - Applications will be available from your English teacher for the 8th grade fall honor society.

September 8 - Honor Society's Pride in the Lake Day. We will also have a hot dog lunch at the lake after the event. Check out www.castaiclake.net for more information. Please sign up with Mr. Tracy at least a week before this event so he knows how much food to get. We will offer a binus service hour to all students who help us out with this event.

September 21 - 8th grade applications and an $8 check made out to Arroyo Seco are due to Mrs. Loughlin in the main office. No late applications will be accepted.

September 28 - Names of all applicants that have been accepted to the Honor Society will be posted on the ASB window at the front of the school.

October 11 - The fall induction luncheon will be held in Knutson Hall from 11:45 until 12:15. Medals will be given out and pizza will be served. (There is no night ceremony for the fall induction and it is just for the students).

Spring Semester

January 30 - Applications will be available from your English teacher for both the 7th and 8th grade spring honor society.

February 9 - Honor Society's Pride in the Lake Day. We will also have a hot dog lunch at the lake after the event. Check out www.castaiclake.net for more information. Please sign up with Mr. Tracy at least a week before this event so he knows how much food to get.

February 22 - 7th and 8th grade applications are due to Mrs. Loughlin in the main office with a check for $8 made out to Arroyo Seco. No late application will be accepted.

February 27 - Names of all applicants that have been accepted to the 7th and 8th grade Honor Society will be posted on the ASB window at the front of the school.

February 28 - A mandatory meeting will be held at lunch in Knutson Hall to go over what will take place at the induction ceremonies (7th and 8th grade). The yearbook photo will be taken at that time as well.

March 19 - The 7th grade Honor Society induction ceremony will be held in Knutson Hall at 7:00 PM.

March 20 - The 7th grade pizza luncheon will be held in Knutson Hall during lunch time.

March 20 - The 8th grade Honor Society induction ceremony will be held in Knutson Hall at 7:00 PM.

March 21 - The 8th grade pizza luncheon will be held in Knutson Hall during lunch time.
