There may be nothing better to cure a tough loss than getting into the end zone early and often the following week.

The Canyon football team did just that at Harry Welch Stadium Friday night, defeating Golden Valley 59-13 for its first Foothill League win of 2007.

"We played some good defense," said Cowboys head coach Chris Varner. "We got the win, which was something we needed. We haven't had too many of those lately."

The Canyon win came the week after a 31-28 loss to rival Hart, a game won by a field goal in the final second.

The Bell Stays Home!

The Victory Bell, emblematic of
high school football supremacy in the Santa Clarita Valley, resides again at Canyon High School.  After the tough loss to Hart, the Cowboys no longer control the fate of the bell.
Best case scenario: Canyon wins its remaiining games and Saugus beats Hart. The result:  Foothill League Tri-Champions and the Cowboys retain the Bell.
