Destiny Rides to Finals

Christina Hall's 3-pointer late in OT sends the Canyon girls to CIF-SS Division I-A title game.

Call it fate.

Call it a cosmic sense of redemption.

Call it divine intervention.

Call it what you want, just call it for the Cowboys.

The unseeded Canyon girls basketball team, on the strength of a redemptive 3-pointer from Christina Hall with 11 seconds left in overtime, posted a 56-55 win over sixth-seeded J.W. North of Riverside Tuesday in the semifinals of the CIF-Southern Section Division I-A playoffs at Valencia High.

For the first time in school history, Canyon (23-7) is going to the section finals, which will unfold Saturday at the Long Beach Pyramid against none other than Foothill League rival Hart.

The Cowboys (22-7) intend to push the limits even further when again they are underdogs against J.W. North High of Riverside (24-6) tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Valencia High in the CIF-Southern Section Division I-A semifinals.
