Computers support learning and enhance instruction. Computer networks allow people to interact with many computers. The Internet, a network of networks, and on-line services allows people to interact with hundreds of thousands of networks and computers. All computers used throughout the William S. Hart Union High School District are to be used in a responsible, efficient, ethical and legal manner. Access to the Internet and on-line services is a privilege, not a right. Failure to adhere to the William S. Hart Internet and On-Line Services Acceptable Use Policy, as described below, will result in the revocation of access privileges and may result in additional disciplinary or legal action. Unacceptable uses include, but are not limited to:
Because access to the Internet and on-line services provides connections to other computer systems located all over the world, users (and parents/guardians of student users) must understand that neither the District nor any District staff member controls the content of the information available on other systems. While most of the controversial information will be blocked, some information is still available that may be offensive. The William S. Hart Union High School District does not condone the use of such information or materials. Electronic mail is not guaranteed to be private. Network administrators have access to all mail. Internet access is free to District users on District accounts. A responsible user may:
By signing on to use the Internet or on-line services in the William S. Hart Union High School District, I acknowledge that I:
As a parent/legal guardian, I grant permission for my student to access networked computer services such as electronic mail, the Internet, and perhaps other on-line services. I have read and agree with the William S. Hart Union High School District Internet and On-Line Services Acceptable Use Policy and understand that I may be held responsible for violations by my student. I understand that some material on the Internet or on-line services may be objectionable. I agree to accept responsibility for guiding my student and conveying to him/her appropriate standards for selecting, sharing, and/or exploring information and media.
I have read the Acceptable Use Policy and agree to follow the rules in the policy. My Internet and/or on-line services privileges will be taken away from me if I violate the rules. I understand that additional disciplinary or legal action may also result. I understand that there will be no second chances and that school officials will inform my parent/guardian immediately.
