In the Hart District, the GATE program is a “program of opportunities.” Having your child in the GATE program insures that you will receive communication about available opportunities. Your child is not required to attend GATE activities, but can attend those activities he/she desires to attend. If you are new to the Hart district, a permission slip that allows your child to participate in GATE will be sent home from your school site.

Goals

  • To enable the gifted to attain the maximum in academic growth
  • To promote the development of original and worthwhile products
  • To encourage responsible participation of the gifted in society through use of their special abilities
  • To develop in the gifted a positive attitude toward school and a commitment to continuous learning
  • To enable the gifted to develop self-generating problem solving abilities

 

Programs & Activities

Most GATE students qualify for enriched classes (Pre-Algebra Enriched, Algebra, Geometry, Enriched English, Spanish, French, etc. at the junior high level and Honors and AP classes at the high school level.) GATE students remain in regular classrooms and participate in supplemental educational activities planned to augment their regular educational program. Teachers are trained in differentiated instruction to meet the needs of GATE students. Clubs, after school/lunch enrichment classes, talent searches, math competitions, field trips, and contests are some of the possible offerings available to GATE students.

 

Communication

A district newsletter inside your school’s parent newsletter, school site newsletters, school site daily announcements, direct mail and information sent home with GATE students are our main ways of sharing activities and happenings in the GATE program.
