Golden Valley High School PE Student Guide

Course Descriptions:

PHYSICAL EDUCATION Grade 9

Prerequisite : No prerequisite 5 – 10 Credits

This course is required for incoming 9th graders and provides an introduction to various team sports. Students will also participate in a personal fitness program which includes cardiovascular and strength training.

 

TEAM SPORTS Grade 10

Prerequisite : No prerequisite 5 – 10 Credits

The major emphasis are developing a personal fitness plan, movement skills, and principles related to individual and dual activities, outdoor education, analysis of movement. Student will develop an in-depth understanding in order to design a personal life-long activity plan. Participation will be in the following sports: basketball, flag football, golf, soccer, and softball.

 

AEROBICS Grades 10-12

Prerequisite : No prerequisites 5 Credits

The class is a balanced combination of rigorous and low impact to medium impact workouts including stretching, a warm up, energetic cardiovascular movements, total body workout and a cool down. This class is designed for those who are serious about wanting to stay in shape, firm up their bodies or lose weight.

 

AQUATIC FITNESS Grades 9 -12

Prerequisites : Permission from coach 5 Credits

Aquatic fitness is a physical education elective. The primary purpose of the class is to learn and practice the basic strokes, starts, turns, and finishes used in competitive swimming and water polo.

 

FLAGS/BANNERS Grades 9-12

Prerequisite : Selected by a panel of judges. Meets the 5 – 40 Credits

physical education requirement for graduation.

The team is a pageantry oriented performance ensemble. This group visually interprets selected musical repertoire utilizing basic dance moves, original choreography, and traditional marching techniques, including use of props. The team performs both as an auxiliary unit of the marching band and as a separate unit. Participation in rehearsals and performances is mandatory and considered a part of the course requirements.

 

CHEERLEADING Grades 9-12

Prerequisite : Selected by a panel of judges. Meets the 5 – 40 Credits

physical education requirement for graduation.

Members of the cheer squad will learn routines, organize rallies, and support athletic teams.

 

 

DANCE TEAM Grades 9-12

Prerequisite : Selected by a panel of judges. Meets the 5 – 40 Credits

physical education requirement for graduation.

The dance team is a precision oriented performance ensemble. Utilizing dance moves and original choreography, the team visually interprets selected musical repertoire. Participation in rehearsals and performance is mandatory and considered to be a part of the course requirements.

ATHLETIC TEAMS Grades 9-12

William S. Hart School District provides interscholastic sports in both the fall and spring semester. Open to all members of the student body with a GPA of 2.0 or better the previous semester. The following Interscholastic sports are offered:

Fall : Football, Cross Country, Girls’ Volleyball, Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball, Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer, Girls’ Tennis, Girls’ Golf.

Spring : Baseball, Softball, Boys’ Volleyball, Boys’ Tennis, Track and Field, Boys’ Golf, Swimming.
