This class is taught by California Highway Patrol Officers at the local Area office.  In an attempt to remain proactive and not reactive, the California Highway Patrol utilizes the Start Smart class to educate newly licensed and future licensed teenage drivers.  The goals of the Start Smart class are: to help young drivers and their parents/guardians understand the responsibilities associated with driving a motor vehicle, to show how a poor choice behind the wheel can change the lives of everyone involved and to reduce the number of teen-related injuries and deaths due to collisions.

  • Classes are held at the Newhall Area CHP station located at 28648 The Old Road, Valencia -  October 18, 2010  5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

  • Help newly licensed drivers and future licensed teenage drivers become aware of the responsibilities that accompany the privilege of being a licensed California driver.

  • Teens attend this class with their parent(s).

  • Recent statistics show CA teenage drivers are injured and are dying in auto accidents at an alarming rate.

  • Through candid conversations, officers in attendance will address these facts and provide examples of driving techniques that put young drivers at risk.

  • This program will help teens understand that driving is serious, and a poor choice behind the wheel of a car can put their lives and the lives of others in jeopardy.

  • Attendees need to RSVP to the Newhall Area CHP station (661)294-5540 and provide his/her name, the parent's name, and a daytime telephone number.
