Message from the Superintendent: Welcome to the William S. Hart Union High School District home page. The Hart District has a very long and interesting history. While most people are aware that the Hart District is named for cowboy movie star, author, and philanthropist William S. Hart, most are not aware that the District was originally christened Santa Clarita Union High School District on January 30, 1945. According to District records, substantiated by local historians, the District name was officially changed on October 16, 1945, some eight and a half months after its formation. Prior to the formation of the District and subsequent construction of Hart High School, high school students residing in the Santa Clarita Valley were bused to San Fernando High School. The first graduating class from Hart High School totaled 75 students, and became known as the "49ers," reflecting their graduation year of 1949. This past June the Hart District graduated nearly 3,800 students from the District's 10 high school campuses and programs. |
