The new assistant superintendent of human resources and student services at the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District is no newcomer to district operations. Robert Gapper, the district's current chief operations officer, has been appointed by the Governing Board to replace current assistant superintendent Rochelle Neal, who is retiring in January.

The William S. Hart Union High School District is currently accepting applications from citizens interested in filling vacancies on its Measure SA Citizens Oversight Committee. The committee reviews use of funds from the local school construction bond passed by voters in 2008 and reports to the public on whether the funds are spent as required by law.

"Newsweek" magazine has named Hart High School one of America's top 1500 high schools, based on the school's Advanced Placement program. Hart was ranked No. 948 out of approximately 40,000 high schools nationwide.

Eighteen classified employees from across the district will be recognized by the Wm. S. Hart Union High School District at the Oct. 7 meeting of the Governing Board. The honorees were selected by their colleagues at each site and will also be honored at a recognition luncheon later this month at Robinson Ranch.

George Velarde, head of the Physical Education Department at Sierra Vista Junior High School, has been awarded a Gold Medal by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness in a Sports Spotlight Award ceremony in Sacramento this week. As a Gold Medalist, Velarde will receive $10,000 for his school’s P.E. program.
