West Ranch High School presents Super Jazz at the Ranch, tomorrow, May 19th starting at 9 am and culminating with an awards ceremony at 7:15 pm. The community is welcome and all day general admission is $10. Students and seniors are $7.

Some of the music industry's top drummers are putting their collective weight behind Rock the Rhythm, Beat the Odds, an attempt at setting a world record for the largest drum circle, which will bring together 7,600 local sixth and seventh graders and thousands of community members Friday, May 18, at College of the Canyons Cougar Stadium.

Sequoia Charter School has planned its third annual Rummage Sale for Saturday, May 19 from 8 am - 1 pm at the school located at 21515 Centre Pointe Parkway in Santa Clarita. One hundred percent of the funds raised help pay for student field trips, school picnics, teacher appreciation days, campus beatification and other student programs. Last year, the sale raised $2,500 for the school and school officials are hoping to increase that goal this year.

Highlights and new information about designer drugs, opiates, marijuana, spice and alcohol
The Hart School District has scheduled an online free webinar for Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 6:15 - 7:45 pm, to educate parents and students about drugs that are being used by students in local neighborhoods. This is the fifth in an ongoing series and will focus on alcohol use and abuse.

Canyon High School Assistant Principal Jan Hayes-Rennels has been named the new Principal at Placerita Junior High School. She will assume the new role at the start of the 2012-13 school year this fall. Her appointment was approved by the Hart School District Governing Board at the April 18 meeting. "I am honored and humbled to be selected as the next principal of this outstanding school," Hayes-Rennels said.
