S.T.O.P. Program Information

  • S.T.O.P. stands for Solving Together Our Problems
  • S.T.O.P. Goal: to make Placerita a better place through peer education and peer mediation.
  • S.T.O.P. students are recommended by teachers at the end of their 7th grade year. We look for students with leadership abilities and students who can serve as positive role models for the incoming 7th graders. This year we have 22 fantastic students in our program.
  • The S.T.O.P. kids are busy working during lunch on Monday’s learning and practicing skills that they will demonstrate in different and positive ways to solve problems through active learning, problem solving/decision making, conflict resolution/peer mediation and anger management techniques.
  • S.T.O.P. students then impart this information and skills to the 7th graders during their P.E. classes.
  • Each S.T.O.P. member is also trained as a peer mediator. Teachers refer students to the S.T.O.P. group for peer mediation. Students who are having problems with one another are encouraged to come into the counseling office to discuss the issues with their counselor, and often times are referred for peer mediation.
