Welcome to 7th grade science! I am looking forward to having an excellent year with you and I hope that you will find science to be a positive and enjoyable experience. The main topics you will be learning about this year include: Cell Biology, DNA & Genetics, Human Body Systems, Evolution, Earth’s History and Scientific Investigation/Inquiry. The skills and knowledge you will gain in this class will better prepare you for high school as well as help you to better understand and appreciate the world around you.

Reading is a major focus in seventh grade English. Many nights, the only homework is to read for 20 minutes and complete the reading log. In addition, seventh grade English students have AR points due near the end of each quarter:

The writing program focuses on four genres including narrative, summary, response to literature, and persuasive. Presently, seventh grade students complete the California STAR writing test in early March based on a prompt in one of the four genres. The topic changes from year to year and is always a surprise; therefore, we prepare for all genres by practicing throughout the year. In addition, during quarter 2, students research a career they find interesting and write a short research paper with emphasis on the steps of researching a topic and writing an effective paper.

Our year is devoted to improving written and oral communication skills. Even in the world of technology, good English skills are important. Thank goodness! It is my intention to build on the skills your children possess and to prepare them to move on to 8th grade and high school with the tools they need to be successful. We'll work toward this goal and have a little fun too.
