Career Planning

Almost everyone can remember a time when he or she said, “When I grow up, I’m gonna be a ______!”  The blank was probably filled with something like “a superhero” when you were young.

In middle school, things change.  You know that no one waves a magic wand to make things happen.  You don’t need to know exactly where you want to go or what you want to be, let alone the steps you will have to take to get there.  The career you end up in may not even exist now.  What you can do is examine your interests and skills to get some general goals in order to make a plan for high school.

The first step in setting some career goals and creating an academic plan is figuring out what you are interested in and what you are good at. Careful planning towards your future begins with the type of career you are interested in pursuing. Many times students find this to be the most difficult thing to do. You may want to explore various websites for more information about careers and occupations.  Many of these sites provide assistance in developing a resumé, completing a job application, and interviewing techniques.
