Referral Process

All referrals to Sequoia should be initiated by the student’s home school. The home school psychologist will contact the Sequoia school psychologist or principal to provide a summary of the student’s current needs.

To be considered for attendance, the student must fit the following profile:
1.Student should be enrolled in special education.
2.Student’s eligibility for special education should be based on an identified emotional disturbance or other health impairment related to emotional functioning.
3.Student should have the capability to perform at grade level in all core academic subjects.
4.Student should have AB3632 services or be in the process of qualifying for the services.

If the potential enrollee fits the profile, the school psychologist will forward the following documents to Sequoia: 1.Current annual or triennial IEP
2.Current psycho-education evaluation
3.Current detailed discipline file

Upon receipt and review of the aforementioned documents, the Sequoia staff will contact the student for an intake interview. Following the intake interview, the student and home school psychologist will be notified within 24 hours of acceptance or denial to Sequoia. If the placement is denied, a letter of explanation will be sent to the student and the home school psychologist.
