1930 - Ellen Church, the first airline stewardess who was also a nurse, went on duty aboard a United Airlines flight between San Francisco and Cheyenne, Wyoming.  Initially, only nurses were hired because of their medical  training.

Monday May 26 – Memorial Day – school closed.

 

The deadline for pre-registration for summer school is Thursday, May 22nd.  Please bring your application to the counseling office ASAP.

 

R.O.P. has some awesome classes this summer. Stop by the ROP office in the career center to pick up a summer schedule of classes.

 

Seniors: All library books and textbooks must be returned, and any outstanding fines paid by Monday June 2nd in order to receive your diploma at graduation.

 

Grad Night – Have you seen the MTV show The Hills lately?!? Well, the past 4 episodes have included shots of our very own Grad Night location, the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. Tickets are only $75 and the night promises to be a memorable event with a possible celebrity guest. Who could it be?!? Guess, you'll have to go and find out - Friday 5/30, 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.

 

Seniors: Reminder to return your Senior Agreement to Mrs. Saxton in the Assistant Principal’s office.  If you have lost your agreement, pick up another one in the Assistant Principals office.  A signed agreement is necessary to receive your cap and gown on June 3rd.

 

Prom – May 16th at the Reagan Library – Air Force One Exhibit.  Prom is only 9 days away and the spaces are filling up. If you haven't bought your dress or tux yet that's okay, but we suggest you get your tickets before they sell out. Tickets can be purchased at the ASB Office at brunch or lunch or online at www.saugusasb.com.

Senior Yearbook Party – Monday May 19th on the outside basketball courts from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.  Don't forget to bring your favorite pen to sign all of your friends’ yearbooks. Food and drinks will be provided and the senior slide show will also play at the conclusion of the event.

 

Lost your ID?!?  Well, you better find it before May 20th as you will need it to pick up your yearbook.  Pre-paid distribution in the gym at lunch.  Yearbook purchases – same date and time outside the gym (boys’ locker room side) – first come, first served - $100.00 CASH ONLY.  Quantities are limited.

 

CAPR AwardsCenturion Academy of Pupil Recognition will be held Tuesday 5/20/08 at 6:00pm in the amphitheater.  Attendance is by invitation only.  If you were invited to CAPR please RSVP in the counseling office no later than Friday, May 16th.

COUNSELING/CAREER CENTER INFORMATION

 

COC rep will be in the Career Center during both brunches today to answer questions.

 

JA Teacher Training is Friday, May 16, during 4th period in the library.

 

The “I Can Afford College” campaign is a statewide, financial aid awareness initiative that reminds high school students that financial aid is available now and year round at California community colleges. Check out icanaffordcollege.com and WhoDoUWant2B.com web sites. These sites will help countless graduating seniors learn about financial aid opportunities at their local community colleges as well as the various career options available to them.

 

Students interested in attending a service academy: Applications are now being accepted for the 2009 entering class. Students planning to apply for one of the service academies for the income class of 2009 must send completed application materials postcard no later than November 1, 2008. Application instructions and materials can be found on Barbara Boxer’s website at http://boxer.senate.gov/services/academy_recs or can be requested by an email message to academy@boxer.senate.gov.

 

Deadline for the Clarita Career College 2008 High School Scholarship Program is June 1, 2008. Clarita Career College offers programs in Vocational Nursing, Medical Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, Dental Assistant, Massage Therapy, Legal Assistant and Medical Insurance Coding and Billing. Applications are available in the Career Center.
