Student Profile
The Early College High School Initiative focuses on young people for whom a smooth transition from high school to college could be challenging. Furthermore, Early College High Schools are designed for students who are underrepresented in postsecondary education. Most importantly, the Early College High School initiative provides an alternative option to traditional high school education.
Santa Clarita Valley ECHS is looking for students who:
- desire additional academic preparation to meet and exceed high school standards
- find the cost of college prohibitive
- are first generation college-goers
- may be English language learners
- are academically motivated to tackle college while in high school
In addition to the above, each student applicant must:
- successfully promote from junior high school
- have at least basic mastery in reading, writing, and mathematics as measured by state standardized tests and/or other assessment tools
- have a minimum GPA of 2.0
Students are selected to attend Santa Clarita Valley ECHS in a competitive process that evaluates academic achievement, standardized test results, counselor and teacher recommendation, personal essay, and a parent/student interview with our team. Our student profile and recruitment goals are to seek out students who would be a good fit for the Early College program.
