Minimum Days - Tuesday, September 2, and Wednesday, September 3, are both minimum days. Students are released at 11:35 each day.
Back to School Night is this Tuesday, September 2nd. Please join us at our outdoor stage at 6pm for performance from our Band and Choir students. Classroom visits will begin promptly at 6:30pm. Magazines, cookie dough and gifts for sale! Now through September 4th, we are trying to generate much needed funds for our school in order to support and encourage student achievement and enrichment. These funds will prove vital to Associated Student Body (ASB), academic teams and departments as they plan potential field trips and on-campus activities, club events, assemblies, speakers/workshops, start-up costs, and more throughout the year. So, it is essential that we all do our part to make the sale successful.
Our school-wide fund-raiser this year consists of five major components:
- Kick-off Assembly in the MPR (August 21st; an informational packet will be coming home with your student)
- Duck Coupon Turn-in Days (August 26th and 29th, and September 2nd)
- Duck Check Day (August 27th)
- Turn-in Day in the MPR (September 4th)
- Prize and Cookie Dough/Gift Distribution Day (October 22nd)
If your student prefers to gather donations instead of selling items, every $15 donated counts as an item sold towards the advertised prize levels, and the school keeps 100% of the money. So, please consider this option when participating in the fund-raiser.

8th grade Washington D.C. Trip - If you are interested in sending your student on the 8th grade Washington D.C. trip, there is still space. We will have an informational meeting on September 15th at 6:30 in the MPR. However, if you already went to the meeting, or are already informed and know you want to sign up, you can send your child to see Ms. Kontis in room 626 for a form, or register online at www.usastudenttravel.com. Feel free to email Ms. Kontis at email@example.com for any questions. We hope anyone who desires gets to go on the trip, it really is the trip of a lifetime!!!!
Community Service Opportunity - Does your child need community service hours for Honor Society (application deadline is fast approaching). Is it time to clean out your shoe closets and get rid of those shoes that no longer fit? You can earn community service hours by donating gently USED shoes. Please bring your shoes to Ms. Kontis' room, 626, and she will give you community service hours for your donation, five pairs minimum required. Any type of gently used shoes will do. These shoes will be donated to help the homeless, and you will be helping your community.
8th grade Honor Society News- Do you want to have your child be in the Honor Society Club this semester? If so, please encourage them to collect an application from the SV Library. The students must have 16 grade points from their spring semester when adding up their grades from the 3rd and 4th quarter. An A is worth 3 points and a B is worth 1 point. In addition, they also need 10 hours of community service to have the application fully complete; community service are located on the Sierra Vista Honor Society website . See the application for more details. The deadline for turning in their paperwork is Friday, September 12th by 2:30 p.m. No late applications will be accepted.
