Teacher Appreciation: The week of May 5th we will having our annual Teacher/Staff appreciation week to honor the teachers and staff of Sierra Vista. There will be a planning meeting on Wednesday, March 26th in room 206 at 9:00 a.m. Please join the lead parent volunteers if you would like to help make this week special. If you would like to help but are unavailable to attend the meeting, please contact Robin Carpenter at 661-510-6890.

Attention 7th grade students that completed an application for ASB: you should have received a note from Mrs. Terranova on Monday confirming that your application was received. Students that are invited to participate in the group and individual interviews, please remember that you must attend these interviews on Wednesday and Thursday after school from 2:20 - 4pm in front of the outdoor stage. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Terranova in room 1002 if you have any questions.

Journalism is looking for a few GREAT men and women! Interested in joining a fun, exciting elective for 8th grade? Join journalism! It's more than just writing! We're looking for reporters and photographers for next year. Pick up an application TODAY (or print one)! All applications are due by April 18. You can turn them in to your counselor or to Mrs. Coleman in room 622.

Attention all 8th grade students!  Were you inspired by the REACH students at the Canyon presentation?  Are you looking for an awesome elective that can help you REACH your college potential? Then come and see either Miss Hoggatt in room 301 or Ms. Kontis in room 626 to pick up an application!  Applications are due after Spring Break!

Do you  want to be a part of a class that creates and designs the 2015 Yearbook? Then join Yearbook! You will to help create a book of memories for your junior high years and be part of a team that designs and edits yearbook pages, takes photos, interviews staff and students, works with new technology,  and has fun while doing it! We are now taking applications for the 2014-2015 school year. You may get an application from your counselor, in room 615 or on the Sierra Vista website. Applications are due on April 18th in room 615.

Community Service Opportunity - You can earn two community service hours and a "Free" run pass from PE if you participate in the "Operation School Bell" 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, April 27th, at 8:00 am.  The fee is $10 for Sierra Vista students and $20 for adults.  You can pick up an entry form from Mrs. Hatfield, Mrs. Skoczylas or Ms. Stauch.  Entry forms and fee are due by next Wed., April 23rd, to Mrs. Skoczylas in room 617.  All the other junior high schools are participating, so let show everyone which school has the most spirit!

Sierra Vista are you ready because it's right around the corner. I know that you have been waiting for it all year. That's right on April 16 & 17 Mr. Hagan and Mr. Drabinski will be holding try-outs for the Sierra Vista Track Team. The annual junior high track meet is taking place on May 22 at COC and we need the best Sierra Vista's got to take down La Mesa, Placerita, Arroyo Seco, Rancho Pico, and Rio Norte. Every student gets a Plainsmen T-Shirt and must have a 2.0 average to participate. So if you think you got what it takes, show up  after school on April 16 & 17 for track tryouts. If you have any questions or concerns see either Mr. Hagan or Mr. Drabinski.

Do you have way too many books just piling up at your house? Well then why don't you donate some of these books to help Mr. Isquierdo in his project to build a library in his hometown of London, California? You can bring in gently used books of any topic to room 619, and if you bring in 10 or more books, you can receive community service hours from Mrs. Skoczylas in room 617. We will continue collecting books throughout the rest of the school year. Feel free to see Mr. Isquierdo in room 619 if you have any questions. Thank you!

Attention 8th graders:  Magic Mountain permission slips are now available at the ASB office.  Tickets for the 8th grade Magic Mountain trip go on sale April 14th.  Cost for this event is $50 with no season pass and $20 with a season pass.  Students must have ID at time of purchase and be credit & demerit eligible to attend.  Last day to purchase your tickets is April 30th.

CANYON CHEER TRY-OUTS ARE COMING -If you are interested please stop by the ASB office and pick up a flyer.

Talent Show Top Ten: The top ten acts that qualified for the Talent Show have been posted in the ASB bulletin cabinet on the back of the office. The first rehearsal will be Monday, April 14th from 2:15 - 3:30 pm. Please remember to report to the MPR immediately after school.

Do you want to use your artistic skills and show you have a green thumb?! Then you should participate in the Earth Day Competition! Every team will have until April 22nd, which is Earth Day, to make a paper recycling bin out of recyclable materials. Help your team teacher to decorate an ordinary box and turn into a functional paper recycling bin!  All bins will be judged at the outdoor stage during brunch on Earth Day (4/22)! First place receives $25, second place wins $15, and third place gets $10 toward the team’s activity fund. 

Library News: This Thursday, April 17th, the library will be hosting a new Brown Bag Presentation - World Musical Instruments.  Come see and hear music from a variety of instruments, plus get a chance to make your own instrument for a prize!  Free tickets are available from your 7th or 8th grade elective teacher.

Krispy Kremes are back!!  The English department is selling Krispy Kremes on Thursday April 24th before school in front of the office.  If you would like to pre-order a dozen, you can do so in the ASB office this week only.  Ask your English teacher for a flyer!  We sell out fast, so don't miss out. 

A new order of Sweat Tops and Sweat Bottoms have arrived!!  As the weather begins to change, we want to keep our students warm. Prices for the sweat tops and sweat bottoms are $15 each. You may purchase them at the ASB office.

WE NOW HAVE OUR DATES! Attention 8th grade students and parents interested in going on the D.C. trip in June, or those already signed up: We will be leaving June 6th (in the evening) and returning the evening of June 11th. If you've been waiting to sign up until the dates were confirmed, you no longer need to wait. Sign up quickly as there is limited space left. Y ou can register at www.usastudenttravel.com. Box Tops: Although the Last collection for this year was Tuesday 2/25/14 Box Tops can still be turned in. These will be held for next years turn in. The collection boxes will be left in each of the team leaders classrooms until school is out. Remember to write your students name and team on the back of all your box tops to be entered in the drawings for prizes. Make a difference every time you go to the grocery store and earn money for your school!!!
