To be eligible for the 8th grade promotion ceremony, end of the year activities (including the Disneyland trip), and diploma, a minimum of 107.5 credits must be accumulated.
Credits are earned with a D grade or better. Credits are lost if an F is earned. Each quarter class has the value of 2.5 credits; therefore a total of 15 credits per quarter can be earned. Students have the opportunity to earn 60 credits in 7th grade and 60 credits in 8th grade.
Lost credits can be made up in our After School Academy and Saturday Academy as space is available. Students can earn 10 credits in summer school. Students who have less than 107.5 credits by the end of their 8th grade year will be put into a remediation program in high school. This program will prepare them to pass the high school exit exam. For students to successfully pass classes, attendance is a must! Please insist that your child attend school daily unless he or she is genuinely ill. Since homework and class participation is an integral part of the grade in each class, it is important that a student do the make-up work for each class when he/she is absent.
If your child is having difficulty academically, socially or personally, please encourage them to talk with their counselor. If there is a family crisis that would possibly affect your child at school, please give them a call.
