Hart Physics Students Become Judges at Elementary Science Fair

Twelve AP physics students from Hart High School served as judges at the Valencia Valley Elementary annual science fair Wednesday.

"Through this event I see a different side to them... caring, mature, street smart, responsible, wise," said Martin Kirby, AP Physics teacher at Hart. "I am so proud of them. The elementary school children look up to them as if they are heroes."

The 12 Hart students, all members of the calculus-based AP Physics class, were: Nathan Boyd, Alex Cardia, Chris Colangelo, Zach Daniels, Kennedy Davis, Eliu Falla, Joshua Garnica, Kelly Jentis, Christian Molidor, Evan Pieper, Luka Sculac and Gabriel Shatkin.

"All the students whose projects I judged were very excited about their work," said Gabriel Shatkin. "They had no fear of their conclusions being wrong or their science being unorthodox. They were simply excited to be scientists and filled with pride for the knowledge they had unearthed."

"Being able to return to elementary school and judge the science fair was an incredibly rewarding experience," Kelly Jentis said. "Although some experiments were scientifically inaccurate or done with mostly parent help, it was refreshing to watch children get excited about their experiments and share it with us."
