Hart District Science teachers made a series of videos to educate students on what will be happening during the Great American Solar Eclipse 2017 and to emphasize the importance of wearing proper eye protection for safe viewing. This is the final episode.

Today's the day of the eclipse! So usually solar eclipses pass over the ocean there's about two every year but today we're going to have a solar eclipse that passes so that 300 million people in North America can see it. The last time we had a cross continental solar eclipse was on June 8th 1918 during World War I. Today's eclipse is going to follow roughly same path the last time we had a complete solar eclipse in North America was in 1970 about 47 years ago and that happened in March just before the Apollo 18 astronauts landed safely on Earth. Since our location is not in the path of totality we're not going to see a total eclipse we're going to see about 70% of coverage on the Sun the solar eclipse is going to begin at 9:05 a.m. and end at 11:45 a.m. with maximum coverage happening at about 10:21. As you're watching the eclipse you'll see the sun appear to have a bite taken out of it as the moon moves in front if one were in the path of totality you would experience complete and total darkness for a couple of minutes an eclipse sun is actually no more dangerous than a non Eclipse Sun however the danger comes from the fact that your eyes will increase in dilation allowing and more light to account for the this pain increases your risk of eye damage and even permanent blindness this is why it is so important to always wear your Eclipse glasses today when you're viewing the solar eclipse if you have not received a pair of solar eclipse glasses you will remember normal sunglasses are not sufficient  to view the eclipse nice open area where you can see the sun put on your solar glasses and stop walking look up and prepare to be amazed!
