Santa Clarita, CA - The Air Force Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (AFJROTC) program at Valencia High School has earned the highest possible rating of “Exceeds Standards” following its Unit Assessment conducted on January 14, 2026. Additionally, Cadet Sophia Nabiev, Valencia High School, and Cadet Weston Michel, Saugus High School, received special recognition as top performers.
CA-782nd Air Force JROTC located at Valencia High School includes students from Valencia, Saugus, Academy of the Canyons, West Ranch, and Castaic High Schools. These cadets have demonstrated exceptional performance and pride in achieving their unit’s goals reflecting the program’s commitment to excellence. Under the instructional guidance of Major (Ret) Jose Bareng and Master Sergeant (Ret) Carlos Guevara, the program impressed evaluators with its strong cadet leadership, active cadet participation, and selfless community involvement.
“Earning a 98.5 on a formal JROTC inspection is an extraordinary accomplishment and a true reflection of the dedication, discipline, and leadership demonstrated by our cadets and instructors,” said Valencia High School Principal Kullen Welch. “Major Bareng and MSgt Guevara consistently hold their students to the highest standards, and our cadets rose to the occasion with professionalism and pride. We are incredibly proud of the Valencia JROTC program and the example it sets for our entire school community.”
