Six Hart District Schools Named 2026 California Distinguished Schools

Santa Clarita, CA – The William S. Hart Union High School District is excited to announce that six of its schools have been recognized by the California Department of Education (CDE) as 2026 California Distinguished Schools. This prestigious recognition honors schools that demonstrate exceptional achievements in student performance and significant progress in closing the achievement gap.

The 2026 Hart District honorees include:

  • Academy of the Canyons
  • Canyon High School
  • Castaic High School
  • La Mesa Junior High School
  • Saugus High School
  • West Ranch High School

“This recognition is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our educators, staff, students, and families,” said Superintendent Michael Vierra. “Having six of our schools recognized in a single year highlights our district-wide commitment to academic excellence and creating an environment where every student can thrive.”

The California Distinguished Schools program recognizes exemplary instructional programs throughout California. This year’s recipients were selected based on performance and progress on state indicators as specified on the 2025 California School Dashboard, including test scores, school climate indicators, graduation rates, and college and career readiness.

The California Distinguished Schools Program recognizes elementary and middle and high schools in alternate years. Schools recognized as a California Distinguished School hold the title for two years. The 2026 California Distinguished Schools will be recognized at a state-wide reception in April.
