Regular school-year counselors are off during the summer. Interest forms will be reviewed by a Summer Counselor.

After your interest form is reviewed, you will receive enrollment documents from Opportunities for Learning (OFL). These documents must be completed before your student is officially enrolled.

General Information

The William S. Hart Union High School District will be offering summer school. This program is different from others, as it will be taught by Hart District teachers, and course offerings may vary. If you are unsure which classes to take, please reach out to your school site's academic counselor for guidance.

SUMMER 2026 PROGRAMS, DATES, LOCATIONS, & DESCRIPTORS

Newcomer Summer Program June 8 - July 2, 2026 - Offered at Placerita Junior High School

Specially trained teachers provide in-person high school courses for Newcomers who need to meet graduation

requirements. This program is offered for entering 9th through 12th-grade students.

School holidays June 19 - No School

JH Math Summer Camp Experience June 15 - July 2, 2026 - Offered at Placerita Junior High School

Specially trained teachers provide in-person math instruction through hands-on, relevant, engaging activities.

This program is offered for entering 7th-grade students from the Newhall Elementary District.

School holidays June 19 & June 26 - No School

Traditional Summer School Program July 6 - July 31, 2026- Offered at Canyon, Hart, and Saugus High Schools

Hart District teachers provide instruction to entering 10th- to 12th-grade students who need credit recovery or

want an opportunity to take an approved district course early to get ahead. While most classes are held in-

person, this summer program offers some ONLINE options for students.

Canyon High School hosts Summer Commencement Ceremony & classes for Graduating Seniors - July 31

Junior High Prep Math July 6 - July 31, 2026 - Offered at Canyon, Hart, and Saugus High Schools

Hart District teachers provide in-person instruction to entering 7th-grade students through two class options, with

invitations based on spring math placement scores, and invites sent through their elementary school 6th grade

teachers:

Math 7 Prep helps prepare students with the foundational skills needed for junior high math.
Bridge to Accelerated 7 for students who did not score high enough to be placed in Accelerated 7 Math and want a chance to build math skills and then take a retest to be placed in advanced Math in 7th grade.

Students in either of these math classes will be invited to take Intro to Computer or Science Project as part of

their two-period summer school experience.

Junior High IMPACT July 6 - July 3, 2026- Offered at Canyon, Hart, and Saugus High Schools

Hart District teachers provide in-person instruction to entering 8th-grade students interested in reinforcing and building math and literacy skills over the summer. Students will also take an enrichment course.
ESY (SDCCC/SDCRS) Summer July 6 - July 31, 2026 - Offered at Hart High School

Hart District teachers provided in-person instruction to entering 7th- to 9th-grade students to support math

and literacy skills. Enrollment is recommended by the student's casemanager.

CTE HS Summer Experience July 6 - July 31, 2026 - Offered at Canyon, Hart, and Saugus High Schools

Hart District teachers provide in-person instruction to entering 9th-grade students interested in exploring careers through a hands-on CTE course paired with a career-relevant math and literacy course to build and reinforce the skills needed for high school.

Extended School Year (ESY) June 15 - July 14, 2026 - Offered at Valencia High School

Hart District teachers provide in-person instruction to students in the district's regionalized program.

Junior High students will attend their feeder High School for the Junior High IMPACT program. (La Mesa JHS will attend Canyon HS; Rio Norte JHS will attend Saugus HS; Rancho Pico JHS will attend Hart HS)

If you are interested in taking a JH Math class, students will be invited based on math placement scores.

2026 William S. Hart Union High School District Summer Opportunity Program Sign-up

IMPORTANT: Please see your Counselor for information regarding summer school sign-up. The student's counselor will assign the student classes and location for the Summer Opportunity Session based on the student's transcript needs or student interest.

After June 3, 2026, your counselor may have limited availability and not be able to assign classes. You may self-select classes by completing the 2025 Summer Opportunity Session Interest Form here.

Extended School Year

If your student is planning to attend the Extended School Year (ESY) program at Valencia High School, your IEP team has most likely already discussed ESY. You should be hearing from the Administrative Intern team to verify whether your student plans to attend, and you will receive other information directly from them. You do not need to complete any other sign-ups. Students will be automatically enrolled.

Attendance, Behavior, Health & Safety Disclaimer

Attendance

Summer school moves quickly. Each class covers a lot of learning in a short amount of time. Students must attend every day. Too many absences may cause a student to be dropped from summer school. If a student is dropped, they may not earn credit.

Behavior

Students must follow all school rules during summer school.

Unsafe, disruptive, or disrespectful behavior will not be allowed. This includes behavior that hurts others, interrupts learning, or makes school unsafe. Students may be suspended or removed from summer school for serious behavior problems. A suspension day also counts as an absence. Rules about dress code, smoking, drugs, alcohol, and cheating will be enforced. Students who do not follow these rules may be removed from summer school and may not earn credit.

Health & Safety

Before coming to school each day, students should check how they are feeling. Students who are sick should stay home. This helps protect other students, staff, and families.
